I don’t know about anybody else but as I watched the skiing and snowboarding events last night every athlete seemed to be sporting Oakley sunglasses or goggles. I have been looking for a confirmation but it seems at least for the American’s Oakley products were standard issue with their uniform.

And Oakley couldn’t have chosen, or been chosen, to outfit at least part of a better crew of snow sport athletes. With Vonn, White, Wescott, Kearney, Mancuso, Lago, Miller, Wilson and Bahrke all taking medals in snow sports some sporting Oakley goggles it is clear that the optics the goggles offer are definitely up to par for performance athletes!

Salt Vargas Aviator Sunglasses

When one thinks of aviator sunglasses often the vision of the classic tear drop shaped lens in a wire frame comes to mind. Recently several designers have re-sculpted the aviator in to friendly shapes that work for everybody.Rounds, rectangular and circle options exist in addition to the classic tear drop and materials are just as numerous. There are classic wire frames, titanium options, even some funky plastic varieties exist.

The aviator has been around for decades for one simple reason, it’s a great style. It looks good on men and women and offers amaing sun protection. With colorful options and different sizes even kids can wear this classic.

Aviators were originally introduced by Ray Ban for pilots during wartime. over the years the style has evolved and made it’s way in to main stream fashion. Many aviator options are now polarized which ir ironic, because true piltos can’t wear polarized lenses while flying.

Rayban still has their classic, prada has come out with some cool versions but most notable in my mind is the collection of aviators designed and presented by Salt Eyewear. With over 40 aviatoresque options at last count this is a line to be considered. All lenses are polarized so if you actually want these to pilot an aircraft you’ll have to find a different option. However if you are looking for high quality, high fashion, and great polarized optics Salt may just have the perfect aviator for you.

You’re out for a hike. The sun is bright, the air is warm, the trail is dry. Nothing could be better. You’re sporting the perfect pair of sunglasses allowing you to see perfect at a distance then suddenly you realize you want to just double check something on your trail map. UGGHHH, the trail map. That document with teeny, tiny print, so small even a young child with perfect accomodation could barely see it. What’s a guy to do?

You don’t want to mess with RX sunglasses, your vision is perfect except when these rare occassions present themselves. Reading glasses would take up too much room in your pocket or pack so that’s not a solution. What you need is a little pocket size magnifying glass.

Return to the above scene…… The sun is bright, the air is warm and you’re looking oh so handsome in your designer sunglasses as you hike. Suddenly you need to check a little detail on your trail map. Calmly, methodically, you find the perfect resting space, pull out your trail mix, your map and your magnifying glass. As you enjoy a little power boosting snack you’re able to easily view everything you could ever want to on the map. The day is so nice and the kike so perfect you’ve decided to extend the hike another 2 miles, and why not. You’ve got your map, you’ve got your magnifier, it’s safe to do a little exploring.
